What is Eczema?
According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eczema the definition is noted as dermatitis or inflammation of the skin which is persistent and recurring such as extremely dry skin or skin rashes with characteristics such as red, swollen, cracked, blistered, oozing or bleeding.
Common Eczema Types
Atopic eczema (aka infantile e., flexural e., atopic dermatitis) Considered hereditary as it usually runs in families where members have asthma, hay fever, and other such afflictions. Often very itchy skin rashes are noticed.
Contact dermatitis is one of two types: allergic (resulting from a delayed reaction to some allergen, such as poison ivy or nickel), and irritant (resulting from direct reaction to a solvent, such as sodium lauryl sulfate, for example). Diagnosis
The diagnosis of Eczema is generally based on observation of the patient and is noted as an appearance of inflamed, red, dry, itchy skin. Often there is pain with eczema in sensitive areas such as face, chest and other skin crease areas.
Medications For Eczema
Corticosteroids
Dermatitis is often treated by glucocorticoid (a corticosteroid) ointments, creams or lotions such as Neosporin. They do not cure eczema, but are highly effective in helping to controll or suppress the symptoms people have.
For mild-moderate eczema a weak steroid may be used (e.g. hydrocortisone or desonide), while more severe cases require a higher-potency steroid (e.g. clobetasol propionate, fluocinonide).
